Where does the history of backgammon go back?

Backgammon dates back to the Middle East and ancient civilizations such as Iran, Rome, Egypt and Sumer. In each of these civilizations, many board games were invented. Still, the game like today's backgammon played in ancient Rome was called Alea, which means "the art of gambling with dice", and even the Roman emperor Claudius talked about the game of backgammon.

The backgammon game was a copy of the Greek Kubeia game, later known as the Tabula board. The oldest backgammon board that has ever been found is the backgammon board found in the burnt city of Sistan and Baluchistan; for this reason, the backgammon board is attributed to Iran.
